{"id":1573,"date":"2010-08-27T14:08:57","date_gmt":"2010-08-27T21:08:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.laurenkahanphotography.com\/blog\/?p=1573"},"modified":"2010-08-27T21:35:18","modified_gmt":"2010-08-28T04:35:18","slug":"jasmine-star-creativelive-course-halfway-mark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.laurenkahanphotography.com\/blog\/jasmine-star-creativelive-course-halfway-mark\/","title":{"rendered":"Jasmine Star-CreativeLive course&#8230;halfway mark!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I stumbled upon <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasminestarblog.com\/\">Jamsine Star\u2019s blog<\/a> a few months ago, and am a little embarrassed to admit that I spent <em>numerous hours<\/em> going back and reading EVERY SINGLE POST!\u00a0 Yup, her current blog goes back to April 2007, she writes a post almost every day, and I read them <em>all<\/em>!\u00a0 Like my dad always says\u2026\u201dAnything worth doing, is worth overdoing!\u201d ha ha!\u00a0 I don\u2019t always subscribe to that theory, but\u2026the apple didn\u2019t fall <em>that <\/em>far from the tree\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Anywho\u2026I seemed to have found her right at the perfect time.\u00a0 I swear that happens to me a lot.\u00a0 Turns out she\u2019s speaking at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www4.wppionline.com\/roadtrip\/rt10\/index.php?f=info&amp;c=SEA\">WPPI Roadshow<\/a> here in Seattle on Monday, so I jumped at the chance to attend.\u00a0 THEN she announced that she would be hosting a FREE online class for 5 days here in Seattle via <a href=\"http:\/\/creativelive.com\/live\/\">CreativeLive!<\/a> I feel so lucky that I am able to watch it live, although you can purchase the broadcast for $149 after the event or for $99 if you purchase before the class is over on Sunday August, 29th.\u00a0 Today is the 3rd day of the broadcast, so you still have 3 days to catch live!<\/p>\n<p>The 1st day she went over branding, marketing, the power of social media, and general \u201chow she did it\u201d information.\u00a0 One of the coolest things about Jasmine is her willingness to share what she knows and her openness about just about EVERYTHING.\u00a0 She regularly features a FAQ post on her blog FULL of helpful information for other photographers.<\/p>\n<p>The 2nd day she answered more internet questions and then focused on how she uses natural light in her photography vs relying on flash or reflectors.\u00a0 She was able to do a first look with the bride and groom.\u00a0 She said that 85% of her couples do a first look.\u00a0 I have to admit that Houston and I didn\u2019t do that.\u00a0 We went the traditional route of him seeing me for the 1st time in the little chapel along with the other guests.\u00a0 I have to say\u2026I might have done it differently had I known about it then.\u00a0 It allows the bride and groom to have a moment that is just for them (well, and the photographer!).\u00a0 It also allows more time for them to have pictures taken of them, without taking away from time with the guests.\u00a0 She sold me on the idea!\u00a0 She then shot with them for about an hour, the entire time explaining what she was doing and why.\u00a0 It was amazing to see her in action.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve already rambled more than I intended to, but will share the few little tips that stood out the most in the 11 pages of notes I\u2019ve taken so far\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be yourself!\u00a0 She puts it ALL OUT THERE on her blog, and I\u2019m not sure I can really fully do that just yet.\u00a0 I keep thinking-\u201cwho cares about <em>me??!!<\/em>\u201d\u00a0 Well, the truth is\u2026I\u2019m hoping that everyone who wants me to capture their moments cares about me.\u00a0 It\u2019s ME that captures it, it\u2019s what I see, and how I see it.\u00a0 She talks about repelling and connecting a lot.\u00a0 That not everyone is going to like what you write or you are, and that\u2019s FINE!\u00a0 It\u2019s better to get that out of the way ahead of time to not waste anybodies time!<\/li>\n<li>There are two quotes that meant basically mean the same thing\u2026.\u201dShoot the t-ball game like it\u2019s the World Series\u201d and \u201cIf you feel like you are shooting ghetto fabulous weddings\u2013take the ghetto out and just shoot them fabulously\u201d.\u00a0 Basically, take any opportunity you have to shoot and shoot it WELL and the way YOU want to shoot.<\/li>\n<li>Give the <strong>\u201cpermission to feel beautiful\u201d<\/strong>.\u00a0 There is no way I could articulate it the way she does, so I will just quote her-\u201cIf  you\u2019re a photographer, I want to encourage you to remind your clients  they have the permission to feel beautiful.  But don\u2019t say it like that.   <em>I give you the permission to feel beautiful.<\/em> That\u2019s plain  weird.  But you get the idea.  Remind your clients it\u2019s okay for them to  let their guard down and commit to getting the type of pictures they\u2019ve  always wanted.
